The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

Owner: Tara Hogan, mom to John Patrick Button, 5 months, living in New York City
Shop here for: Wildlife-themed letterpress prints and stamp sets
Signature Item: The Observant Owl stamp, $22
Prior to opening her Etsy shop, Tara worked as a prop stylist for catalogs, rummaging through antique stores and creating what she couldn’t find, whether that meant drawing illustrations, painting walls, or making collages and framing prints. Her crafty career transitioned into web and stationery design, along with a resulting wholesale business.
It was her shop on Etsy, however, that helped Tara become a mega-hit with the media. Her elegant, sophisticated designs for letter sets, stamps, and wall art have captured the hearts of customers and media alike. Her work has been celebrated in Time Out NY, Real Simple, and ReadyMade; recent highlights include having her wedding invitations featured in New York Weddings and her 2009 calendar mentioned in PRINT magazine.
