The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

Owner: Ioana Weber, mom to Lucas, 8, and Lisa, 5, living in the Netherlands
Shop here for: Baroque bracelets, necklaces, and home goods
Signature Item: Fried eggs and steak potholders, $26
Ioana’s most popular product — her fried-egg potholders — came about from a very common problem: she was dissatisfied with the plain ones she found in stores. Luckily, she wasn’t the only one looking for something quirky in her kitchen; over 100 people have stocked the potholders in their kitchens since then. “People love to give them as a present!” she says.
Ioana likes Etsy for being “a great place to get started on a business, or to expand a hobby” — and, in her experience, make friends: “I had a customer that patiently waited three months to get the parcel I sent, and we mailed back and forth wondering what had happened: Is the parcel on holiday somewhere in the Caribbean? Lost in space? Is the postman walking to get it there? Finally she received it, and we are quite close now!”
