The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

- #1 Home Goods
Owner: Lisa Golightly, mom to Holly, 12, and Ian, 9, living in Portland, Oregon
Shop here for: Beautiful canvas paintings and prints
Signature Item: “Girl in the Yellow Suit” painting, $35
Lisa’s main “baby” (besides her actual two kids, of course) has been the portrait work sold on her website, kikiandpolly.com, which was originally inspired out of a desire to capture her kids in a way that reflected their personalities. Since then, her paintings have been featured on the television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, as well as in Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple and Cookie magazines.
If you’re not into bright, cartoon-y characters, you’ll love Lisa’s soft sketches of kids playing on jungle gyms and at summer pools. The prints in her Etsy shop are affordable options for a mom who’s looking to decorate a chic nursery or kids’ room while supporting an artist (and fellow mom!).
