The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

Signature Item: I Love Paris Doll Kit, $23
This talented mama studied textile art at the Royal Art Academy in the Hague and used her art background to create DIY textile doll kits, perfect for crafty families. Since opening shop 5 years ago, she’s sold 400 of them, some to places as far-off as Japan.
Erika especially enjoys hearing how her customers take designs into their own hands. “I had a customer who bought the ‘I Love Paris’ DIY doll kit and she didn’t just make the doll and skirt but also a cute French wardrobe — including a beret — and some mini croissants and baguettes for the doll!” she exclaims.
What’s next for MIKODESIGN? A new doll kit inspired by “a famous Mexican artist,” says Erika. We can’t say for sure to whom she’s referring, but we’ll be first in line to buy it once we find out.
