The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

Owner: Kerstin, mom to a 2-year-old old boy, living in Melbourne, Australia
Shop here for: Handmade, modern children’s clothing, like skinny jeans
Signature Item: Shark Kids Hoodie, $45
If you’re a Parenting magazine reader, you may have already seen Kerstin’s adorable hoodies, which she originally sold at craft fairs before opening her Etsy shop in 2008. This German-born mom says Etsy is exceptionally easier, especially for expanding her customer base internationally. Her ultra-cool, wearable kids pieces have been a hit. “I must have sold hundreds of the Bat, Shark and Dinosaur hoodies,” she says.
What’s surprised Kerstin the most has been the influx of requests from adults — who want the clothes in their sizes! “I actually get asked quite regularly if I would consider making my Shark or Bat hoodies in adult sizes, to which I normally say, politely, no,” she says. “However, on one occasion, I’ve gotten talked into it!”
