The Top 50 Etsy Parents of 2012As parents, putting family first can make us feel like our own interests and hobbies are pushed to the backburner. However, sometimes you meet a mom or dad who carves out time to pursue their passions — and make a living from it, to boot. While compiling this list, we’ve had the chance to hear from incredible parents around the globe. What they all have in common is a love for beautiful things — and the savvy to share it with others on Etsy.
The shops on this year’s list are as diverse as the sellers behind them. From couture kids clothes to vintage home goods, each object showcased here is a representation of the creative stories behind them. Warning: this is online shopping, taken up a notch. Prepare to become addicted! (And if you think we missed a shop, nominate it in the comments!) — Amy Levin-Epstein

Owner: Janel Anderson, mom to five kids, ranging from 15 months to 14 years, living in Southwest Idaho
Shop here for: Adorable, handmade hooded towels for kids
Signature Item: Clownfish Hooded Towel, $35
Janel started in the Etsy biz thanks to a little persuasion from her sister-in-law. “She coerced me into doing a craft fair, and I only agreed if I could come up with a hooded towel that was unique,” she says. What started as a great idea has turned into a successful online business; Janel has churned out more than 1,200 towels since RubADubBuddies opened — and was an Etsy Featured Seller
She’s even gotten the kids in action: “Our older children cut and roll the ribbon. Some help tie on tags and tape up boxes. Others vacuum towel scraps and print shipping labels.” Janel says she loves how quickly she sees the results of her efforts in terms of profit and customer feedback — a quick turnaround compared to parenting. “Our oldest is 14, so we’re just starting to see the fruits of our labors, which is such a ‘pay day,’” she says.
