Babble Summer Film Guide 2008

This summer, three film trends are apparent: cute animated creatures traveling into space; broody, conflicted superheroes; and a glut of sequels and remakes. We have high hopes for a few of these, but no one knows what your kid likes better than you. Here are some CliffsNotes to help you out.

TAKE THE KIDS IF: They look adorable in 3D glasses.

The Dark Knight

RATING: PG-13
STARRING: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal
IN 10 WORDS: Batman Begins sequel finds neurotic Batman taking on psychotic villains.

TAKE THE KIDS IF: You're prepared for nightmares about the Joker.

Space Chimps

RATING: Not yet rated. Probably PG.
STARRING: Andy Samberg, Cheryl Hines, Patrick Warburton
IN 10 WORDS: Animated monkeys are blasted into space, many sophomoric gags ensue.

TAKE THE KIDS IF: They find anything involving monkeys hysterical.

The Longshots

RATING: Not yet rated. Probably PG.
STARRING: Keke Palmer, Ice Cube
IN 10 WORDS: True story: eleven-year-old girl joins male football team.

TAKE THE KIDS IF: They need some good ol' follow-your-dreams inspiration.
