feedback for "Babble Best: Maternity Jeans"

  1. really only one pair of decent maternity jeans under $100. Sorry most of the world can't afford those prices.

  2. Seriously!? Over $100 for maternity jeans!? That is ridiculous.

What about hitting up Target!? Liz Lange runs about $27.99 (which honestly, I balked at since I was only wearing them for a few months) and they're really good jeans... they held up just fine, were very comfortable, and fit great for the whole 4.5 months I got to wear them.

C'mon Babble, we expect you to be the voice for real moms, and I don't know many of those that would shimmy their bloated ass into a pair of overpriced pants that they can only wear for 6 months!

  3. I second Target. I bought one pair of Liz Lange jeans there (don't remember the price, but the above quote sounds right; also bought a few other pants that worked well in my biz-casual office) and wore them throughout pregnancy and for quite some time post-partum. They were great.

Why waste your money on expensive maternity jeans? Save your money and put it in a 529 plan for the kid's college fund.

  4. I thought the same. Except the American Star jeans, running abuot $40, I can't imagine anybody wearing those. Unless you're a celebrity or REALLY wealthy (in which case, I hate you) you're just irresponsible if you drop more than $100 on jeans. Seriously. Think how many diapers that is! It's crazy. For something you'll wear a few months with each pregnancy, too. Just crazy.

PS - I invested in a cheap belly band or preggy T and pulled it over my regular jeans, unbuttoned. It kept them up, gave me a smooth tummy, let me wear them comfortably, and I wore them like that till I went on maternity leave. By then I was home and only wearing sweats anyway.

  5. All the jeans mentioned also come in really limited sizes, usually nothing above a 33, which is ridiculous imho.

  6. in my opinion best maternity jeans under $100 were the long and leans from the gap- you can chose from styles and sizes and they look amazing on those of us who are not usually described as long and lean!

  7. The nude belly panel is the BEST idea ever! It lets you wear a more fitted top without that tell-tale dark line coming up over your belly. Motherhood Maternity makes a "seamless" one that looks like it would work even better (and I think their jeans run about $40-50) - not like I'm buying anything at 36 weeks.

Old Navy clearance rack anyone? That's where I've found my best jeans, ranging from 99 cents-12.99.

  8. I was SOOOO excited when I read the title of this article and opened it up to read it. How DEPRESSING! Who can afford those prices for a piece of clothing that you'll wear for a few months? Ridiculous!

  9. My favourite place to get maternity jeans is at the thrift store. You might even find some of those frou frou 100 dollar brands, only worn a couple times by women foolish eough to pay retail! hahaha

I think I paid 8 dollars for the most expensive pair I have.

Thrift store maternity racks are awesome - most of the stuff is in great shape because it has only been worn a few times. I got to Value Village (I think called SAVERS in the US?) because they have a separate Maternity rack. My local Goodwills and Sally Anns still mix them in with the regular clothes, no matter how many times I tell them they won't sell that way.

I've had plenty of compliments on how cute my pregnant outfits are. And I have plenty of money left over for ice cream. It's win-win.

  10. They could have included at least ONE under $30 option.

  11. Moreover, they could have provided at least one option that actually comes in plus sizes since not all of us started thin!

  12. Echoing everyone else's comments--it would be nice if the people running this website were able to recognize that most of us cannot afford $185 for a pair of jeans even when we're NOT pregnant!

Most of my maternity clothes came from Kohl's, Target, and the Gap (for a two pairs of pregnancy pants--a good-fitting pair of jeans and a pair of camel velvet bootcut pants). I simply don't see the point in spending a s***load of money on something I'm only going to be able to wear for 6 months. I'd rather spend the money on the baby.

  13. Please...Babble the voice of real moms? I, too, was hoping for a few more options under $50. But surprised? Nah.

  14. A 34-inch inseam needs tailoring? I for one am thrilled to hear about these long-legged options.

I hear the complaints about the lack of more affordable options in this list, but I object to the reaction of judging women who might choose to splurge on a pricey pair of jeans if they can afford it. What, just because I'm pregnant it's selfish if I shop anywhere but Target and Old Navy, or spend money on anything but diapers?

  15. Really, violet. I agree. I have one pair of posh maternity jeans and refuse to feel guilty for it. I am living in Old Navy tank tops and my pre-pregnancy cardigans to balance out the cost of these jeans, which I have worn nearly every day throughout my pregnancy (I work in a casual workplace). ON and Target jeans - and believe me, I have tried them ALL - look awful on me (though I fully recognize that there are women who look great in them - if you're one of them, count yourself lucky and count me jealous). As far as I am concerned it was absolutely worth it to spend a good chunk of my maternity wardrobe budget on an item of clothing that I will wear and feel great in most days for a solid year (I will wear these for my second child as well) rather than buy several consecutive pairs of jeans that I don't love in the attempt to find something that made me feel reasonably attractive - which would end up costing that much or more in the end, not to mention the emotional cost of clothes shopping while hugely pregnant.

That said, I do think these articles SHOULD be more balanced re: cost. I suspect what jeans look good on you is more about your body type than the jeans themselves. I know I have friends (I curse them daily) who look great in their ON jeans. It would also be nice if one of these articles mentioned that you can very often find said jeans at half their new cost at secondhand maternity shops.

  16. 34" inseam, thats fabulous! For those of us with long legs...you can't exactly add fabric with out it looking ridiculous! I completely agree with violet and ruby....spend the money on the jeans if you can. I personally splurge on designer jeans all the time and choose to save money in other places, they jeans make me feel like a million bucks...and no pair of motherhood maternity jeans will do that for you.
