feedback for "Vegas or Bust"

  1. Lame,
What a disappointment. Just a boring rehash of all the reasons why people want to get married. I have read exactly this story at least 50 times.

  3. interesting story. i have been surprised to discover that there really is a marriage tax -- filing either "married filing separately" or "married filing together" is considerably more expensive, like thousands of dollars more, than if we were unmarried. its in effect a tax on married people both of whom work. if you are not religious or overly traditional in your thinking there are fewer and fewer reasons to get married, it seems.

  4. There is an important social justice issue here: Our high-priced, employer-based health insurance system discriminates on the basis of relationship status.  As a result, couples are often compelled to compromise their principles and accept the government as a party in their intimate relationships, while singles often feel that they are not receiving equal pay for equal work, and same-sex or multiple-partner families are often left out altogether.  That is why we support truly universal health insurance at the Alternatives to Marriage Project, a national nonprofit advocating fairness for unmarried people.  I'd love to have your help launching our universal coverage campaign - please sign up at And for chattydaddy - AtMP also calls for taking marital status out of the income tax code - read our explanation of marriage penalties and bonuses here:
