feedback for "Diaper Rush"

  1. I have some of the diapers pictured at the beginning of the article-- they're called Poppy (not poopy) Pants and they're adorable, excellent at preventing blowouts (way better than 7th Gen. disposables), and less than $20 each. We have been doing about 70%/20% cloth/disposable, but due to a family budget crunch we're planning to try all cloth except for at night. eBay, here I come. . . .

  2. Great article, Amy! Very insightful on the strange cult that is the Cloth Diapering World. ;)

    I would like to ask, though, that you please credit the photo used on the story header. It's my personal photo of my spankin' new SOS on my clothesline and while I'm flattered that you'd use it, I'd love credit for it.

  3. nutty ... i never would have guessed. i understand from and ecological perspective its a toss up (between cloth and disposable) but i can see how the collectors items mentality could kick in. there are clearly no boundaries to the human desire to collect things they consider beautiful, or status-endowing.

  4. That is so crazy!  I can't imagine becoming obsessed with diapers, of all things...  But I used disposables and never looked back, because I'm just too lazy to bother with cloth.

As I'm gonna be a SAHM (in about 7 weeks), I decided on cloth for financial reasons and because I'll be home so another load of laundry shouldn't kill me.  I'm going with prefolds and covers (mostly handknit wool ones made by my mom).  I did pick up a few of the cheaper fitteds to see how those work out.  I have another friend who loves using cloth, but she uses a diaper service, which means prefolds & covers that someone else washes.  We can't afford that, so I'll do my own washing.  There are some pretty cute cloth diapers out ther, but if I had that kind of money, I think I'll prefer to buy books.
