Wayman Tisdale Dead

Wayman Tisdale has died after battling cancer of the knee for two years.

Tisdale played in the NBA for the Pacers, Kings and Suns and was on the U.S. Olympic team that won a gold medal.

Tisdale left basketball to pursue his love of music. He played smooth jazz on bass guitar.

Wayman Tisdale is survived by his wife and their four children. He was 44-years-old.

As a lifelong Suns fan, not to mention a lover of jazz, I have very fond memories of Mr. Tisdale over the years. Very sad.

Our thoughts to his family, friends and fans in his passing.

Jade Goody's Boys Lose Another Loved One

Oh, my goodness, I don't think I can take anymore sad news today. Jade Goody's poor little boys lost their great grandfather to suicide yesterday.

He was recently diagnosed with throat and mouth cancer and took his own life. We don't know what the suicide note said, but I can't help but think that he didn't want live through what Jade did.

He left the suicide note on the kitchen table for his family and a gun was found next to his body.

Poor Jeff Brazier, to lose the mother of your children is hard, no matter what kind of relationship you had. But to lose another family member within a few short weeks is just more then anyone should have to bear.

Jeff's rep said that he will wait to tell the boys because, " They are very young and have had more than enough pain in the past few weeks."

Our thoughts go out to the family in their time of loss.

Farrah Fawcett Near Death?

There have been reports that Farrah Fawcett, who has been battling cancer, is close to death. She was listed as unconscious and critical in a Los Angeles hospital, but the latest reports claim that she is doing better and will be released soon.

Let's hope for the latter.

Fawcett's homecoming will not be without additional drama. Her troubled son Redmond O'Neal (dad is Ryan O'Neal) was arrested yesterday for drug possession and trying to take narcotics into a jail- which I suppose is a good way to cut out the middle man, but you don't get to collect $200 (see Monopoly). However, it's probably not the kind of thing that a very sick parent needs to deal with.

Hopefully Farrah will regain her health and Redmond will get some help.

Yes, Redmond is a bit old to make the cut at FameCrawler, but he's an old school celebrity kid and unfortunately his actions have become something of a stereotype. Let's hope the current crop of famous children are able to take a different path.

Jade Goody's Supporters Turn Out In Droves

Jade Goody died early Sunday morning and already hundreds of mourners, supporters and fans have left tributes at her home.

The tributes are along the lines of flowers, cards, balloons, and stuffed animals. Though the family has asked for their privacy, to mourn in peace, they do appreciate the outpouring of love for Jade.

Jade's mom Jackiey said that they are overwhelmed by the public reaction of her death. She commented, " It just shows how many people really loved her."

I think that many people have latched on to Jade's story as a chance to grieve for something or someone they have lost.

It's hard not to be strong all the time, I personally need a sad movie or song to evoke tears. I find it's easier to feel for someone else, than to feel my own pain. We can all relate to Jade in some way, whether you are a mother, a daughter, a wife, we've all lost someone dear to us.

Dying Dad Gets Extra Time Thanks to Mystery Donor

Finally, a bit of news that reminds us hedge fund managers are people too (the NASDAQ be darned). A mystery manager here in the states has ponied up the cash to fund the cancer treatments for a British father denied care by that country's National Health System.

Jack Rosser knows he will die, but thanks to the mystery donor, he may have as much as several extra years to spend with his toddler daughter.

OK, commence weeping. I know I shed a tear or two at this story, not least because the Rosser's diagnosis with an aggressive cancer of his kidneys came just days after little Emma was born. The Rossers should have been celebrating new life; but they were staring death in the eyes.

Rosser was told he probably had two years left, unless he began treatments with Sutent, a cancer drug which costs three thousand pounds a month (currently about $4,450). The medicine would give him extra time, but it couldn't save his life. It wasn't enough of a benefit for the British National Health System. The government told Rosser the treatment was off the table. Attempts to get him into a clinical trial were out too - he was told his cancer wasn't advanced enough. He'd have to accept death . . . and leaving his wife and daughter sooner rather than later.

When his story was highlighted by a group working to fight for cancer patients denied life-lengthening care (and highlighted by Bloomberg late last month), the man identified only as a hedge fund manager from the states stepped forward. He'll pay for the fifty-seven-year-old Rosser's treatments, he said, as long as he needs them.

"It's been such a fight and all I can say is thank you. He's given my daughter the opportunity to get to know her dad," Jenny Rosser told Sky News this week.

Perhaps someone could remind the National Health System - and nasty American HMOs - that sometimes the decisions they're making aren't about that one patient, but the lives around them too. A few extra months for a little girl to get to know her father can make a world of difference in her life.

Oh, and while you're at it, could someone pass me a Kleenex?

Carnegie Mellon University professor, Randy Pausch passed away on July 25, from terminal pancreatic cancer. The dad who became famous for his life lessons "Last Lecture," which millions of viewers watched on television and internet, has left a lasting impression on those people, that will not be forgotten. Randy will be remembered on September 22 at the university.

The on-campus memorial is by invitation only, and will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the school's Rangos Hall. Those that are not able to attend, will be able to watch the service live on ABC's website.

Carnegie Mellon president, Jared Cohon said in a press release, "We wish we could accomodate everybody who would like to attend this event, but the size of even the biggest room on campus, not to mention our limited parking, makes that impossible. By making live streaming video available, we hope that everyone can join us as a virtual community." You can watch the live stream on abcnews.go.com/ , and Dr. Cohon has urged various schools and colleges to host their own memorials so staff and students can watch the service as well.

Randy is survived by his wife Jai, and three young children - Dylan, 6, Logan, 3, and Chloe, 2. Mrs. Pausch is expected to attend the September 22 ceremony, however, she is not expected to speak at the service.

Jane McGrath died two months ago from cancer. Glenn McGrath is raising their two children, Holly (6) and James (8), and they are doing the best that they can.

"We talk about mummy all the time. They have chosen a star and we go say hello to mummy each night.

"The kids are going well and they are my main priority."

I can't even imagine how hard it must be for the McGrath family. It's nice to see they are starting to heal.

Is Ted Kennedy Dying?

Edward "Ted" Kennedy is rumored to have only weeks left in his storied and often tragic life.

Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant glioma in May of this year. It is a type of cancerous brain tumor that Kennedy opted to have surgically removed in June. The surgery was believed to be a success.

Then why is he suddenly on the cover of Globe with only weeks to live? They are reporting that his cancer is spreading. We're hoping that the publication is mistaken.

Say what you will about Ted Kennedy, but his legacy cannot be denied. Kennedy is the father to 3 children and step-father to two. He is generally considered the father figure to the thirteen collective children of his two assassinated brothers. He has many school-aged grandchildren.

Here's to your health, Mr. Kennedy.
