Still no period after 10 months?!?

Today's my son's 10 month birthday and I keep wondering when I'm going to get my period again. It's kinda cool that I haven't had it since 2005 (love wearning white pants!), but still....

Yes, I am still breastfeeding - a little - so can I expect to get my period after I stop? I know moms who've gotten theirs three or four months after birth. This just seems like a long time.

And, as far as I know, I'm not pregnant. I've done two preg tests - one at 6 mo. and one at about 9 mo. - and they were negative.

I have been having slight crampiness lately, but it's been totally different than the cramps I used to get. There's this slight throbbing in what I can only guess is my left ovary or thereabouts.

I know, I know...I should see a doctor. But I thought I'd get some advice from the community first.

    Thanks!

I'm still bf several times a day at 7 months and no period yet.  I've also had some slight cramping lately but am not sure why.  I'm taking birth control so am not really concerned about becoming pregnant.

A friend just weaned her son at about 14 months.  At that point, she finally got her period.  My guess is there's no problem, but it can't hurt to ask your doctor about your concerns.

Interesting..My doctor told me not to take birth control (ie the pill) until I finished bf. So I wait and wait...

I'm not particularly in a hurry to get my period - I'm not looking forward to it surprising me at an inopportune time. But I just wanted to know if I should start worrying yet.

    Thanks for the info.

I didn't get my period back until 15 mo. postpartum with my 1st child. My second child is 11 mo. old now and I haven't started my period yet. When you do extended, on demand nursing it is not uncommon to not have a period for well over a year.

My daughter is also 10 months, and I breast feed 3 times a day. I have not had a period either, but my doctor says this is completely normal, and that I will not have my period more than likely until I am COMPLETELY finished breast feeding. I have had the same ovarian pains, but I have a history of PCOS. I have been on the pill since 2 weeks after my little girl was born. It has not affected my milk supply at all. I am planning on night feeding only in the next few months, but once I stop, it should only take a few months for my period to return.

I wouldn't worry.  Every woman is different and you hear of some women, despite bf, having periods very soon after and others who don't get it back until completely weaning their babes.  The cramping may be a sign that your body is gearing up to go again (attempting to ovulate) and it can be totally different from what you experienced before.  Pregnancy does crazy things to our bodies.  For me, after my first, I had a lot of pain with ovulation and eventually my periods, starting around 9-10 mos.  But then I got my pregnant with my second and now am going through more crampiness.  I've had the feeling off and on the last few months (ds is near 7 mos) but it has increased ten fold this last week so I may be close to my first one.  But if you're concerned, definitely call your doctor.  Worrying just makes you feel worse and hurts your body.

As for those posts about the pill, there is a pill that is ok to take with bf.  Not sure what it's called but you can ask you ob/gyn about it.  Anything other than that pill is not ok to take while bf since there's a greater likelihood of decreased milk supply.  It is my personal opinion that the pill not be used while bf so that no hormones are ingested by babes and no risks are taken, however small.  If contraception is needed, use a condom.

I just read your message.  My daughter just turned 9 months and I still haven't gotten a period. I too breastfeed however she is almost weaned. I also took a preg test just incase.  I saw my Dr. and she said it was normal. So enjoy the no period days.  Hope this helps!!
