Is working at Whole Foods Worth it?

I am a mother of 3 kids and when I applied at Whole Foods last year I was very upfront about it. I had applied with the availablilty to work in the day and not be able to close. They worked with my schedule till we got a new Team Lead who told me that if I was not flexible she would cut my hours to 2 days a week and find someone who was more available. So I changed my availablitliy to close 1 to 2 nights a week if need be. IT's gotten to the point where I am now working shifts that are totally opposite of what I was hired to work. They keep saying because it is retail they can adjust the schedule to fit the needs of the team. I am the only one with kids and they told me that I should be happy that I am able to even receive the schedule I am getting. I earn $11.25 and have gone above and beyond in the work I do.  I think they are able to give me the schedule I was hired to do if they just scheduled fairly, afterall they don't want to close so just schedule the newbie (me) to do it. So this past week they told it is what it is and maybe this is not the job for me since my availablity is not what they need even though I was with the store since the opening and they have hired 4 employees after me who are getting the schedule they want. I think it is because they have been in the company for years and are being favored because of their tenure.

What do I do. Do I quit? What about benefits. HELP!!!!

Unfortunately, that's pretty much the way that retail is. I work at Wal Mart and I have seen the exact same thing happen there. They always find a way to work around your schedule and if you actually do it then they think, "Oh, well she CAN work those hours after all." The key is to not budge for anything.

Retail hates families. All they care about is business. You aren't going to find a place that is any better-not Wal Mart, not Target, not anywhere. Just keep fighting them about the schedule, look up policies about scheduling around availability, and stick to your guns! It's the only way you can make it in retail. Also, never quit. If you quit then you can't get unemployment which you may need when looking for another job.

Re: Is working at Whole Foods Worth it?

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to quit after months of trying to work it out. I also am eligible for unemployment becasue it is a scheduling issue. I was hired to work days not nights.I Compromised and said I would work a couple closes just to be a team player and until they hired more people. They still scheduled me closings after they hired 3 more people. I tried to work something out and compromised but they still scheduled me what I was not hired to work. So i did some research and found out that I do qualify and I gave them my 2 weeks notice if they did not give me the schedule I need. I think if you show that you tried to work with them and not just say I couldn't work for selfish reason then you do qualify. I also realized it is not RETAIL it is management that is to blame.
