In July, we will be traveling to Las Angeles for a week with our daughter, who will be 20 months old at that time. We're planning for the flights (purchased an infant fare for the Southwest flight; will bring a DVD player, toys, food, and her car seat; etc.); it could be rough, but it will be okay since it's only a couple days in our entire lives. :-)
What I'm wondering is how to help her adapt to the three hour time change. A little history on her--she is just now sleeping through the night with some consistency. She's very sensitive when it comes to her sleep schedule (7:00 wake-up, 1:00-4:00 nap, and 8:00 bedtime). Even shifting things by a half an hour is hard for her and results in meltdowns, shorter naps, and/or night wakings. The recent "Spring Forward" took a full week to adjust to.
Do I shift her schedule forward gradually starting a couple weeks before the trip--maybe with a goal of getting her to change by about two hours then maintain that schedule in CA? Or do I just do what I can to help her get enough sleep once we get there—with little idea of what her days will look like?
Any advice or experience would be appreciated!
