    what's your favorite baby swing?

Dad has become convinced we need one since he can't get the baby to nap on his own. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. My girl is almost 7 months, over 16lbs, and can crawl.  I appreciate any advice.

Probably too late to buy this one, since your kid is gonna outgrow swings fairly soon, but for anyone else reading.... when our first was about 6 months old, we visited someone with a Fisher Price Papasan swing and it was like crack to my son but I just couldn't see buying a new  swing whan he was that old, but I swore I would get one if we had another baby (at the time, we had a hand-me-down swing that he liked OK but wasn't willing to spend tons of time in). Sure enough, I am now pregnant with baby 2 (due in March) and one of the only big purchases I made was to get that swing... it is amazing. It's about $125, it rocks both back and forth and side to side like a cradle, has a comfy looking papasan-style seat, and every baby I have ever seen introduced to it loves that swing way more than any other. I am looking forward to swinging my baby daughter in it when she arrives next month, and hope it will help us get more sleep than we did the 1st time round!

We bought a papsan swing when our little guy was 3 weeks old and having really bad colic. I thought it would be great for moments when I needed to put him out of his sling. It was not, it was like baby gitmo for him. We had to take it apart and return it, he acted like it was the most awful experience of his life. I am afraid that your husband is just going to figure out how to get the little one to sleep, maybe he needs to rock her for 30 mins, or an hour even. Parenting just takes this sort of commitment and a swing can't replace us. It is hard sometimes, but our babies need us to make them feel secure and safe, not a swing. Maybe he can try putting her in an ergo, or other baby carrier and face her in, walk with her until she falls asleep, it always works for our peanut. Know that he is a crawler, we wear him for naps, it is so nice for both of us.

We ended up getting the fisher price rainforest open top cradle swing thing. She seems to like it ok. Personally I haven't really used it with her, but both grandma and dad have said it has been a lifesaver this week since I started working. I don't think either of them has been using it for napping but rather as a distraction for them to be able to sneak a moment of peace and possibly contemplate all the wonders that are "mommy" and her magic ability to do this every day and night without losing her mind ;)

we have the graco winnie the pooh and he loves it.  it appears large enough for up to 20 lbs.  a friend purchased for us at Target for 100 dollars, but you may be able to find at consignment or on craigslist.
