We used to live upstate and went to Lake Placid a few times. We loved it! You can rent a lake side cabin for a very reasonable rates, go hike with your daughter in the back-carrier - or just take drives to the mountains, have picnics or enjoy the lunches at the cute little restaurants downtown. There is so much to do, winter or summer, but it is the most beautiful at the fall time when the colors are just amazing.
