Moving baby from our bed to crib

    Hello,

Our 11 month old has co-slept with us her whole life.  However, we are now pretty worried about the first part of the night (7:00 - 10:00 when I go to bed) as she's getting pretty active in our bed.  We have rails up and lots of big pillows, but still.  Anyway, our plan/hope is for her to sleep for that first part of the night in her crib (in our room), and then to bring her into our bed when she wakes up for the first time.  (She still nurses around 11:00 p.m.).  We've tried this, though, and she absolutely hates it and cries and screams.

    Does anyone have any advice?

We were also worried about moving our son from our bed to his crib and decided to start with naps during the day. Something about starting with naps seemed to make it easier, possibly because he could still rely on our bed at night. Over the course of a few weeks (maybe a month +) we started transitioning him to his crib when we put him down at night (I still breastfed him in the glider before putting him down, so he got some nice time in my arms and was nice and sleepy when I put him down) and he took to it better than we expected. It might take time for your daughter to get used to her crib, but keep at it during the day for her naps and she should start warming up to it (and eventually expecting it) over time ..

We recently transitioned our 1 year old from our bed to the crib.  For us, we also combined this with sleep training since he was still waking every 2-3 hrs at night.  After the last nursing in the evening he goes down in the crib pretty easy as he is completely conked out at that point.  If he wakes prior to a 4-hr interval I comfort him by patting his back, singing to him, etc. but I do not pick him up and do not nurse him.  The first night was really hard and he cried for an hour before finally falling asleep, but since then he goes back to sleep with a little encouragement (although he does sometimes still wake quite frequently).  I don't know if this helps - your situation is a little different, but this worked for me.
