Safest product for cleaning hard surfaces for baby?

What's a safe but effective product to use for cleaning hard surfaces (like crib rail guards) that might end up in my baby's mouth?  I was thinking of either using baby wipes or mild dishwashing liquid on a cloth, but I'm feeling a bit clueless.  I don't know if I'm over-thinking or under-thinking the toxicity question (not to mention the question of how clean and germ-free things actually need to be).  What do you guys use?

I vote for over-thinking. I don't think I have ever cleaned the crib rails, or maybe swiped a wet soapy cloth across them once if there was a rpessing reason. I thin a certain amount of germs are good for a baby... helps toughen 'em up.

I agree- a little dirt never killed anyone. That said, you don't want the place to look gross... soap and water is probably fine, but I really like method's products (www.methodhome.com - I think) for everywhere in the house. Check the labels, but any I've used have been non-toxic, and they have cleaning sprays, wipes, wood cleaner, flushable bathroom wipes... and it smells good, too! No, I don't work for them...

I get them at Shoppers Drug Mart (in Canada), but I think if you're in the US you can find their stuff at Target... or so I've heard.

PS- Baby wipes may be the handiest things ever invented. :D
