    Thrush!

Has anyone had experience with this? I've heard using Gentian Violet really helps, but is very messy. Any additional suggestions?

    Re: Thrush!

I posted about thrush the other day (in the infant section). Someone posted a really helpful response with links to websites that talk about treatment. I had some relief after a whole regamine of diflucan, acidophilus, and vinegar rinses, but it's never gone completely away.

I just got gentian violet myself and am going to use it tonight (I was reluctant because of the mess). From what I read on kellymom.com, if the diflucan doesn't work within a few days, it probably won't work at all.

I will let you know how if goes with the gentian violet after I try it.

    Re: Thrush!

look forward to hearing how it goes!  i posted a longer response under infant, but in case others are dealing with this past the infant stage, here were my thoughts / expereince with it:

here's a concoction that has worked -- gentian violet on the nipples / around the affected area, acidophilus (flavored liquid kind from health food store or capsules), and grapefruit seed extract tablets (i have found Nutribotic to be the best, link below) which can also be used to threat the nipples by placing a few drops into approx 2-3 oz of water (basically very diluted ) although do not use it on your nipples for longer than 2 days, as it's very strong / will dry out your nipples (so perhaps rotate with a vinegar wash). Basically, Thrush is incredibly aggressive and difficult to ever fully get rid of, but it sounds like we're all finding ways to manage it better, which makes breastfeeding easier / more pleasurable. Overall, as messy as Gentian Violet is, i do think it works wonders at attacking the yeast growth. Interested to hear about any other concoctions that have worked for others ...

Are you just trying to get rid of it naturally? Because my son has it right now, and his doctor gave him a pescription for Mycostatin, and it seems to be working really well. He's also on Mystatin cream, because it traveled down into his little genitals. Now who knew it could do that? I didn't.
