    New York child care expenses

Does anyone out there have advice on what is a reasonable hourly or weekly rate to expect for a babysitter in brooklyn? My child has not yet arrived but I'll be needing to return to work fairly soon after her birth in late February and just trying to set up a budget.

Would it be full-time? i believe $10 - $14 per hour is the normal range, $12 seems to be what most of my friends pay, however, be prepared to pay a bit more if they have significant experience and there's competition to hire them ... you may also want to think about what her range of responsibilities will be -- is she willing to help tidy up the house , etc. Good luck with your new baby!

We pay our nanny $15 and that seems pretty average. Our previous nanny charged $12 but I haven't heard much cheaper than that. My nanny works FT (I work FT) and am paying my nanny by the hour. I'm wondering if most people do this or if they just pay a weekly salary.
