I hope this isnt how you teach your children to talk to others? Obviously you were blessed with children who are healthy, instead of berating others you should be thanking God for what he has given you.

    Re: Tubes in Ears

My 2 year old son (28 mos) had sooo many ear infections, esp around his first birthday.  It seemed that each month, everytime he cut a tooth, his nose would run and that night he'd be up with the ear infection.  We took him to an ENT, and they checked his hearing very quickly and painlessly, and that checked out fine.  But we weren't crazy about putting him under for surgery, and asked the doc what he tells nervous parents.  This guy was lacking on the bedside manner, and said he did it for his son, and it's no big deal.  Well, to us it was, and when he gave us the same statistics as someone mentioned above, I wondered why we'd want to do something with a slight chance of success.

So I was saying one day to my best friend (mom of 3) that I wished there was just some other option to try before going to surgery, and she reminded me that the same thing happened with her oldest, and she took him to a trusted family friend who was a wonderful chiropractor who adjusted him a few times, and it seemed to work.  So for a few weeks I made the hour-long drive to the doc who was very understanding and the appts would only last a few minutes, and whether it was coincidence or not, he's only had 2 in over a year - the latest one this past weekend b/c we just started him in daycare.

I'd suggest finding someone who's highly recommended, and has a practice that takes care of children.  We have a good friend who's a chiropractor, but I wouldn't trust him adjusting my son.  Give it a shot before putting them under, if you can.

Also, we packed away the bottles when he turned 1, and had a rough week of him being PISSED that we were giving him his morning milk in a sippy cup instead of his bottle, but it didn't last more than a week, I promise.

Nice.  You kiss your kids with that mouth?

My oldest son had tubes twice.  He outgrew both sets.  It completely changed and helped his lifestyle.

My second son is on his way to having his first set of tubes.  I was wanting to see a good honest opinion about tubes vs. chiropractor, but I guess I'll have to go somewhere else.

My son is 8 and has his second set of tubes.(only in one ear) This tube has been in for November and he is now having a problem with ear infections again.  The ear with the tube drains so he has no pain.  Have you heard of recurrent ear infections with tubes?  Any suggestions to prevent them?  I pray this is something he will out grow.

    Re: Tubes in Ears

One there is no need to be calling people names.  Some children aren't so blessed to have a chiropractor just fix the problem.  My son is now 2 1/2 yrs old.  He was so lucky to get his ear problems handed down to him from his parents.  My son had tubes put in his ears when he was 6 months old because he had a constant ear infection for 4 months straight.  Nothing worked.  The surgery went wonderful.  The ear infections stopped.  You know a good parent is one that looks out for their children and will do anything to make them better.  I don't regret making the decision about the tubes.  Both my husband and I have gone thru it.  We are both fine.  I try to do what is best for my child and I believe that I made the best decision for him.

Anonymous before you start stereo typing people maybe you should think that each child is different.  Some children may have a worse situation then others.  What works for one child doesn't work for all.  Infection can kill children so parents are going to do what they can to protect them.

    Re: Tubes in Ears

My son is 6 and probably headed for his second set of tubes. He had his first set at 9months. We were very hesistant about having them done, but he was just so sick w/infection after infection,we knew we had no choice. The day after surgery he started walking(at 9 mo) and was great-we were very happy we had it done.

We have had a good few years w/o chronic infections-but now they have resumed, and probably soon will be getting another set of tubes-and hopefully last set.Everyone that I have talked to was glad they had gotten tubes for their children-seemed to help alot in all cases.I understand your daughter's hesitation-my husband and I were the same way. But after we saw the wonderful results in our son,we knew we had made the correct choice, and wished we would't have stalled so long.

The only downfall is the swimming-we had to have special earplugs fitted-not really a big deal. Best of luck to your daughter in making her decision...

    Re: Tubes in Ears

i noticed alot of ppl writing saying that the tubes haven't helped.. my son is due to see an ent doc on thursday but i have read/heard alot of ppl saying that sometimes the tubes alone might not work that sometimes having the tonsils and adenoids removed also helps with the infections. because sometimes the fluid is due to allergies and/or sinus issues. from my understanding of wat some docs have told me is that not only does those surgeries help with ear infections but also with speech and weight gain issues. dont know if any of this information is helpful to anyones but i hope it is

    Re: Tubes in Ears

you are definitely entitled to have your children treated however you want.  your comments would be more effective if you would offer information about chiropractic treatment w/o calling people names.  I am a young grandma (age 49) and have a granddaughter who is supposed to have tubes and her mommy just said she is afraid because of the anesthesia.  That is why I visited this site.  I raised 3 children and have 2 grandchildren.  I will indeed ck out this with our chiropractor.  However the way you state your ideas will turn most away.  God bless and good luck with your family.

    Re: Tubes in Ears

Just a thought, you may also be going for some hearing tests as well. Since you are concerned about sedation and general anesthesia, just thought you might like to know that there is on the market fairly new technology (but used successfully in hospitals and clinics in the US and Canada, and throughout Europe and the Middle East) that allows ABR (auditory brainstem response) hearing testing to be done WITHOUT sedation and WITHOUT putting the child under G/A.

Check out www.vivosonic.com. You can obtain clinically accurate, reliable tests for hearing risk-free, while the child is quietly occupied (looking at a book or video with the sound off) held and comforted!

    Re: Tubes in Ears

Hi, I just happened to come across your email and couldn't help but respond. I am a Chiropractor and I personally treat kids in my office for problems causing the ear infections and have helped families avoid tube surgery. My suggestion would be to ask around for a Chiropractor that your friends, family, or coworkers go to that is comfortable with treating children. I treat my own daughter and she has barely had a cold in 8 months and she is a year and a half. Let me know if I can help further. Sincerly, Dr. Eric Becking drbecking @gmail.com
