    Re: cord blood banking?

well I consulted my gyn about it and it seems like an investment into the future. Stem cells extracted from the cord have only helped with leukemia so far, but if organs are grown from these cells (which is officially forbidden yet but this might change) there are better chances that this organs will be accepted by the recepient rather than organs donated from other people. So it will surely work if the parents of the child have health problems of the kind. It makes me think though that, as parents' DNA is similar to the child's, his siblings' DNAs might also be similar, so we thought maybe when we have the next child and are better-off, then we can take those cells from his/hers navel cord.

besides, stem cells can be taken from any part of the body, not only from the cord, it's only that the cord can provide most authentic and better stem cells.

So, basically, my gyn made it clear that stem cells will become really useful and effective when cloning becomes officially allowed.
