    Getting Around Town with Two.

I love my Phil and Ted which gives me tons of freedom with my 18 month old and my 2 month old.  The only problem is not all subway stops have working elevators or have elevators at all.  There are also some challenges with out of the way locations in Brooklyn... for example we have a holiday party to go to on Grand Ave btwn. Flushing and Park tomorrow and I have no idea how to get there!  Did I mention we do not have a car?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

No suggestions, but lots of sympathy.  I'm in D.C. with twin sons, and I usually have them by myself in the mornings (I work nights, my wife part-time days).  The D.C. Metro subway is pretty good for elevators but they break down a lot.

I have a 3y/o and a 6m/o in Manhattan.  I use slings for my youngest (and did for the 3y/o when he was my only) and my 3y/o walks.  18months is probably too young to really walk anywhere but I imagine lugging a lightweight stroller up and down subway stairs with the youngest in a sling would be much easier than a double stroller. :)

BTW, do you use www.hopstop.com ?  It's like mapquest for public transporation!

I don't know if you use a car seat or not, but if you do you may want to check this out.

http://www.flyingfalcon.netit will help free up your hands, to hold your toddler or carry a bag. If you do place a car seat in a stroller for travel, this will free your hands to help carry it up the stars when there is no elevator.

We live in London and had not till last weekend own a car - have 4 boys - 2 (4yr old and 13 mo old) usually in my Phil and Teds stroller.  London's tube (subway) for the most sake does not have step free access - so I am constantly hauling my stroller up and down steps.  The 4 yr old walks up and down the steps and I pull the Phil and Teds up backwards if going up- or bounce it down the steps going forwards down the steps.  Good arm workout  and be sure to bend your knees so you don't throw your back out!-  There is a new Phil and Teds GT that is coming out and is suppose to be 20% lighter then the current one.  Other cases I have used my Quinny Zapp for the oldest and out the youngest in my back carrier or front carrier when he was really little.   My other stroller when I have just one is the Stokke stroller which is made for public transport - still pulling up and down steps - but nice and narrow for the bus.
