    holiday pay for babysitters

i am wondering what other parents are giving to their babysitters for holiday bonus/gift.  our babysitter has been with us for a year and a half.  she works for us 3 days a week.  last year, we gave her one day's pay.  i recently heard from 2 fellow brooklyn moms that they are giving a week's pay.  that seems like a lot to me.

I'd always heard it was one day's pay--and I don't know how you feel about this, but if everyone keeps giving more, soon everyone is going to go broke trying to keep up with the gifts.

Standard in Brooklyn (Park Slope anyway) seems to be one week's pay. That's what we've been doing for the past five years with the two different sitters we've had during that time period.

I'm not sure about paying babysitters, we haven't gotten that advanced yet. However, a friend of mine gave us a great tip: Hog your sitter. Don't tell anyone about your awesome sitter, or the next thing you know your neighbor will offer them more money, then they won't be available to sit for you.

    Not a bad tip eh?

    Cheers

    Dave
