Glad to see this new board

I came over here from Urban Baby and am hoping for a less hostile atmosphere! Think it will happen? ;-)

I like Nerve, hope I'll feel the same about Babble.  So far so good.  Soooooooooooooo over Urban Baby.

The hostility is not what bothers me so much about UB, it's the drop in IQ that seems to have happened over the last 6 months or so.

I have high hopes for intelligent discussion at Babble!

(Please don't ever be publicized on the Today show! Pretty please?!?)

What's the connection between Urban Baby and The Today Show? I'm not familiar...

Hear, hear ... from what I can tell, you're definitely in much better company on Babble. UB feels so down-market these days. Most of my friends and colleagues have either stopped visiting UB all together or don't have the guts to admit ever visiting, even if they had only succumbed in a moment of sheer boredom. Babble’s beat seems much more focused on positive collective community intelligence!

Why would UB allow its board and community to become so hostile?

It seems to be dominated by a few individuals. That is not uncommon, I am beginning to realize, as I participate in a few on-line communities for about three years now. What happens is a person with an ax to grind, or one who takes glee in stirring the pot, is on the board, all the time, and if not weeded out by the moderator, chases out all the 'normal' (productive, positive, respectful, etc) posters.
