    What's a Gruppie?

I believe Gruppie comes from the term Grup coined by a New York Magazine article....

    Ok...I found the article! http://nymag.com/news/features/16529/index.html

I am Valarie, and am not yet a parent. My husband and I have been trying for about a year now, and we've finally gotten some of the problems taken care of, and are hopeful! I would love for there to be fertility discussion here. I am finishing my undergrad in Psychology/Women's studies, and plan to become a midwife. I'm not sure of what I should say here... I guess I'll just have to reveal more as I post :)

    Re: Welcome!

Hi I'm Laura, also going under the user name Sapphos. My husband and I have a daughter who was just born last month, December 26, 2006, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where we've spent the last year taking advantage of affordable and excellent maternity care.

My husband is French, so our daughter will have triple citizenship and we'll also be raising her trilingually - English, French, and Spanish. Any other multilingual  families out there?

We're heading back to the States in March and decided to forgo returning to Miami and are heading to Chapel Hill, NC. Looking forward to getting back to the States (although will miss B.A. and will return often),  and plan to keep up with my breastfeeding (in public!), baby wearing, cosleeping,  and attachment parenting and now upon return considering trying cloth diapers...thank goodness I have a fully supportive husband who's on board with me.  We both work from home so we're splitting as much of our parenting responsibilities as possible but boy he doesn't always get what it's like to be a human pacifier :-)

I currently write two blogs, Moving to Argentina and Pregnant Expat, and recently released an ebook titled Moving to and Living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I love talking about what it's been like being pregnant in another country, and of course now with a newborn.

Look forward to chatting with everyone in the forum!

Hi!  My name is Julie Marsh, better known in the blogosphere as mothergoosemouse.  My husband and I have two little girls and a house in the Denver suburbs.  We moved from the New York metro area nearly two years ago, and the trauma of the move drove me to start blogging.

Hello! My name is janie, mama to the incredible 5-yr-old Grace. DH and I are working on a sibling for her. We are somewhat crunchy with our co-sleeping, cloth diapering, baby wearing, quazi-AP, organic feeding, home schooling, must do yoga to relax way of life.

I work part-time as a designer at an ad agency.  I ride a sportbike for fun. I'm liking the idea of Babble!

    Re: Welcome!

Hi, I'm Cindy, aka MamaLuvins, and I'm a happy SAHM to 3.5 year old Izzy (boy) and 21 month old Sophie (girl).  I'm borderline crunchy, as many of you are:  breastfeeding, baby-wearing, sometimes co-sleeping, organic-feeding, and no circumcision.   But the kids are off the breast now and we try to keep them in their own beds, so that's why I'm just borderline.  Not to mention that I let the occasional pop tart or chicken nugget get by me.  *sigh*  This is the toughest job I've ever loved.

Looking forward to jumping into Babble!

    Thanks!

I'm EdgyMama, and I've been meaning to sign up for a while, but life got in the way. I have two kidlings, a girl (8) and a boy (5). I'm a freelance writer, photographer, blogger, beer lover, tree kisser, and book addict. And I'm tired.

Thanks, and I'm glad to find this site.  I live in Indianapolis (not the most progressive of areas), and I run a non-profit organization for expecting & new dads (www.dadsinc.org).  I have one son, who is currently 11 months old.  My biggest interest is in fathering practices, skills, needs, etc.  I am also a regular blogger (http://nonprofitdad.blogspot.com), and I use the forum to educate on running a non-profit for dads while trying to be a good one myself.  Looking forward to being a part of the community.

    Re: Welcome!

I'm Elizabeth, a 35 year-old expat American living in London, England. I live here with my (British) husband and my ever so clever and witty four year-old daughter, Mary Catherine.  I'm a freelance designer on my own time, but I work in investment banking, keeping my more artsy fartsy side well hidden. Heels by day - birks by night! I blog to stay sane.

I was so stoked to find Babble as amongst my friends "back home", I'm the only one who doesn't live and breathe suburbia.  Our conversations usually sound like this: "Yes, I live in a flat/apartment and no, I don't have a yard. Of couse I take my child on buses and trains without fear. A car? Oh, we only have one, but we don't drive it during the week. My groceries? Oh, I have them delivered late at night.." Extremely foreign concepts to some, which is slightly enjoyable but often alienating.

So far, I'm enjoying the incredible writing on Babble and the distinct lack of daft blinking signatures everywhere!  I hope to be able to lend a 'foriegn flavour' here.

Hi, I'm jenerally, first time mom to brand new baby boy G in August '06. I've had lots of babysitting and nanny experience prior to getting pregnant, but find I'm still sorting through all this parenting stuff. They weren't kidding when they said it's different with your own child!

Currently, I'm a PT SAHM and also work 1-3 days outside the home, which makes juggling childcare, mommyhood, and the professional me about all I can currently handle. I'm wife to PK, who is struggling to learn his role as a dad. We have three cats and live in an apartment, trying to get on our feet and raise our little family.

Hey ya'll - I was referred by jenerally and I'm a new Mom too. My baby was born in August and is now 5 months old. We've worked hard to keep our child in a diverse, urban environment and I'm excited that there is now a "home" for us online. :) Here's my Lola...

    Hey all,

I'm Tomatillo, almost 3 months pregnant for the first time, and looking for an apartment in downtown Toronto. Found out I was knocked up right after leaving work, moving across the country back to my home town, and going back to school. Morning sickness and culinary school are unpleasant bedfellows, in case you had wondered.

My boyfriend and I would probably be considered Advanced Grups, except we are poor.

Hi.  I'm Leigh.  I'm expecting my first child on April 25, 2007.  I'm currently living in Munich, Germany.  I'm going to try for a water birth, but we'll see what happens.  I plan to "wear" my baby, breast feed & room-in.

    Re: Welcome!

Hi, I'm Chris, father of one 11 month old daughter, living deep in the urban wasteland of Sydney.  I'm also afraid that I may be one of the few Australians here, from what I can see.

My daughter's name is Millicent (aka Milly) and although we've given her a name that no one from a non-english speaking background seems to have heard of, she's a massively happy little girl.  Except at 4am, for some reason.  Her Mum is studying her Masters in Law, and I'm an archaeologist.

We're cloth nappy users (sorry, diapers), and though we desperately miss our days of coffee and newspapers at our local cafe haunts on a weekend, we wouldn't swap what we have now for anything.
