Toddler, baby sharing room - no sleep for anyone

My daughter slept a good 5-7 hrs. from 1-month and any troubles we had later were quelched by little bit of modified cry-it-out with comforting. She then slept 12 hrs. and took a 3 hour nap for nearly 2 yrs (we were spoiled). Now she's 2 3/4 yrs old and our son is 8 mo. He's gone from being in a Pac n Play - our bed combo, to now starting out in his crib in their shared room and ending up in our bed by morning. He is an insanely light sleeper, goes to bed around 8, wakes up at 10, 1, 3, 5 etc. He is still nursing and luckily our daughter sleeps through most of it - at least I think she's sleeping. I hate saying to her, "he might cry for a bit but he'll settle down in just a few minutes, so please just stay in bed." So most of the time he ends up in ours and I think we're all waking each other up. He does not like the Pac n Play any longer.

I haven't had more than than 2 hrs.straight sleep in 8 mo. and not 8 hrs. for the past couple years.

I'd really just like to hear about anyone else who has small children sharing bedrooms: What worked, what didn't, etc.

Maybe I'm just crazy that some day this might work and I should just go take out that loan to add on another bedroom (this is in the 5-10 yr. plan ($$)).

Sorry, no answers, just sympathy.... And fear on my part :)

Our daughter will have just turned 2 when she will be getting a little brother. While he'll be sleeping in our room for the first year or so, we are planning on putting the two of them in the same room for the next few years. I always assumed this was not going to be a problem, so thanks. This is a good warning for us....

I am about to do the same thing, put the 13 month old night waker in with his sister. I dont let him CIO but he can be noisy, and quite joyful in the middle of the night

Tonight I am going to try the Sounds For Silence CD http://www.soundsforsilence.com.au/ that I used to settle my daughter for naps when she was very little and have it on repeat all night. last night he slept for 10 hours straight, a miracle. I was up and down for a while to my daughter who was coughing quite a lot and I covered him with a blanket and I thought maybe the activity reassured him and kept him sleeping. So white noise, here we come! If it helps I might just play it in the kids room until they are teenagers, by then they can sort themselves out when they wake

    Love

    Beck :)
