    School lunch options?

I'm running out of ideas of what to pack for school lunches.

My child is a little picky and since peanut butter has been banned from the school (allergies) and he's informed me that he thinks cheese is "yucky" and "icky," I have no idea what to send to school.

Any ideas would be hugely helpful!

we're not quite there yet but friends of ours send their kids with chicken fingers, banana and jelly sandwiches, bagel w/ cream cheese, spinach pancakes, fish sticks, dried apricots, pear slices, crackers, pretzel sticks, etc .... but i agree, it's tough to consistently come up with creative and healthy meals for them.

We do a lot of turkey and soy hot dogs, foster farms chicken corn dogs, and lunchables.  Graham crackers, goldfish, and leftovers are working too.  Chicken rice-a-roni is a big hit at our house and they'll eat it room temperature so I even send that.

This is a great website, even if you're not vegan.  The lunches are all healthy and kid-friendly.  It should at least give you some new ideas to try.

You might try one of the milder flavors of hummus.  I know it sounds like a long shot for a kid, but mine wolfs it down.  I pick up the smallest possible size of whole wheat pitas and usually let him dip his own, but he'll eat it sandwich-style, too.

we had dinner with some old friends the other week and the lunchbox dilemma came up as our daughter has just started preschool.
the great advice we were given by this friend was - put your sandwich in first, then always have 2 x dairy products and a fruit.
its now like my morning chant "sandwich.....dairy, dairy, fruit" before I zip up the lunchbox and pack her off to preschool.
i am no longer standing in the kitchen half awake scratching my head for lunch ideas.

One of my 3-year-old's favorites is mini-quiche (aka egg pie.) I simply beat eggs with a little milk and salt and pepper. Then add finely grated veges like carrot, broccoli stem, zucchini, etc. and a small amount of grated cheese (you could certainly leave that out.) I bake them in a cupcake pan, or my new favorite silicone pan with swirly shapes. I freeze the rest of the batch in a Ziploc.

My son likes them best at room temp, so now we just let it thaw in his lunchbox.

Other favorites are turkey breast lunchmeat rolled into "sticks." Also carrots, celery and cherry tomatoes with a little ranch dip. We also do mixed nuts for protein as a "side."

I"m also a huge Veganlunchbox fan!  And non-vegan too.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. We are back to thinking cheese is yummy, so that's back on the menu. Our real problem is that our son goes to a preschool inside a synagogue and we can only pack kosher foods in the dairy variety. I'd love to send a tuna sandwich every once in a while but my son thinks tuna smells "bad" and won't touch it. I think I'll try the quiches...those sound like something my son would love!
