    for srndptygddss-

we use seventh generation diapers- they are comprable in cost to huggies/luvs etc (ok they are little more expensive but not by much) and i think they work better- they are way more absorbant i think.. and they are a tan color without any characters etc... the whole foods brand is just white and work pretty good. target has cute bright colored circles on the bands of their diapers and they work decently.

i agree re the 7th gen diapers superior absorbency. however, the whole foods pull ups suck. i wish 7th gen produced pull ups. huggies pull ups r the best, bc the velcro-ish tabs. generics sometimes r best.

You are absolutely correct.  Though I am not in the diaper business, as an importer of baby products, I can tell you the generic and the brand name merchandise is often made in the exact factories, it is exactly the same product with a different name.  Of course, the more expensive spend millions in advertising, so the cost is passed on to the consumer.  Anyway, while on this subject, I am running a super sale on all my merchandise (proudtots.com).  Visit me, I really need the traffic. I sale luxurious baby bedding, $20 high quality diaper bags (these are made in the same factories are those high priced name brands). Also, I have 3 kids, and I agree the Huggies brand pullups are the best.  Pleasure sharing!

I buy all my formula, diapers, and wipes from costco's generic brand, and know I am saving hundreds of dollars. My pedi said that when it comes to choosing a formula it is all about what your baby will tolerate since all formula is regulated by law to contain a certain base level of nutrition. I compared the Kirkland brand to Enfamil and Simulac, and nutrional it was almost the same as Enfamil and way better than the Simulac. And as an added bonus my baby started spitting up way less when we made the switch.

Here's my 2 cents.. We used all name brand (from clothes, diapers, formula, baby food, etc)with my first born. Big mistake! I look back now and cringe at all the money we threw away. Now my husband and I are smarter with our second son. We were adamant about using generic diapers and wipes (love the Target brabd!) in the beginning and going to resale shops for clothes but were on the fence about the formula. At first we used Enfamil during our baby's 1st month but after researching the generic versus brand name issue online (we found that all formulas are the same and have to be made accordingly to federal standard)  and talking to other parents, we decided to jump in and bought Parents Choice (we chose this brand b/c most of the people we spoke to loved this). We love it! Our son has shown no ill effects (thank god) and is healthy and gaining weight steadily. We also love the price- compare a 25.75 oz.  can of Parent's Choice is 11.96 to Enfamil's $ 25 +! It's great!

I found a product called Lullwater Soap Nuts. Its an all natural detergent. Literally growing on trees which gives oxigen back to the atmosphere. My little girl has eczema and after starting to use this her eczema had gone away - admittingly she is no longer in diapers. Awesome product. After reading your post I wondered if I had to do it all over again, would I use manufactured diapers or cloth diapers and wash them with Lullwater Soap Nuts which does not even look like detergent. Anyway.. just a thought. I am not sure why I typed this message as I am thinking not many really care about the environment.. yah.. I think we should just continiue to use plastic diapers. Target brand is great. Or not..

     Confused.

Re: Brand Name v. Generic Products

I always buy generic anything and really often it is just as good as the brand name because it is made by the brand name companies anyway. For instance, Walmart's generic yogurt is really just bluebunny. Bluebunny makes the yogurt and it has different packaging. Also the Wal Mart brand milk is just Roberts. It even comes in on the same truck. If you can buy generic, I say do it. You really end up just paying for the name in most things.
