    Constipated?

My boy is 5 months old, bottlefed, a great sleeper ( knock on wood) and a fairly easygoing little fella. But every so often he gets constipated. Or maybe I should say irregular. Whatever it is, he won't poop for a couple of days other than just a little dollop ( I know, I'm grossing myself out, too). And during these 'nonproductive' times he gets increasingly cranky and hard to soothe. It's becoming a bit of a cycle and one I'd like to break.

     Any suggestions?

we have a similiar situation...we usually give him a bottle of water at night instead of formula (or in addition to) and it helps to clear it up. also massaging the lower tummy area (above the boy bits) and wheeling his legs while doing so helps...

our doc said it was probably an increase of iron with the addition of solid foods, we switched to a lower iron formula and it helped to help clear up the constipation

I second the water - If Paige needs to shit her brains out and can't a little warm water helps.

If it's really bad try a teeny bit of watered down prune juice and prepare yourself for the worst.

It's funny, now that I'm with child I've never gotten so excited about poo!

we have had a little trouble with constipation, and found that sugar water is a great way to get baby to poo...

use a teaspoon of water to 4ounces of water and watch the miracle unfold.  i use it a lot with our son and he goes pretty regular, but when he gets bound up, i like to give him relief.

also, i have heard that Gripe water can be helpful.  you should be able to find it with the gas medicine in infant aisle.
