    Breastmilk for Adoptive Parents

...Actually, the breast milk is for the baby.

My partner and I are in the process of adopting a new born and we're wondering if anyone has good resources on where we can buy breast milk.

Any suggestions would be appreaciated. (I've tried La Leche League, but I find the site unavigable.)

     Thanks!

It depends where you live, but a lot of cities have breast milk banks. This link to the National Women's Health Information Center has a lot of information and links to organizations that sell milk, including the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. Hope this helps:

You might try Milkshare -- you don't buy the milk, pumping mamas donate extra milk to other little ones who need it.  I donated my extra when my son was a wee one.

     Good luck!

Have you considered inducing lactation? That's when an adoptive mom uses a breastpump and sometimes also takes hormones in order for them to start producing breastmilk without having their own child or going through a pregnancy. Also you can't buy human breastmilk, it's donated to milk banks for babies in need. The shipping costs however can be outragously expensive because it needs to be kept frozen. Another benefit, aside from cost to inducing lactation is that the milk changes as the babies needs change in a normal breastfeeding relationship. With getting donated milk it's coming from various moms who have babies of various ages and stages. So it's not custom fit for the baby and their needs.

It would be hard to induce lactation... we are both men... but I would if I could!

    Thanks for the suggestions above!
