    baby acne

It seems that this is a pretty normal occurrence but wondering if anyone has any experience with treating baby acne?

We didn't treat it - just waited for it to go away on its own. The baby wasn't suffering and we could deal with a few pimples, so we didn't see the need for any meds.

We didn't really do anything, either.  Just wipe the baby's face with a wet washcloth (no soap - it dries the baby out!) and do your best to keep her face clean.  Baby acne is totally normal and usually a result of leftover hormones running through the system.  It goes away eventually if you leave it alone!

One of our lads (I'm not embarassed to say I can't remember which one) had it for a while, but not very badly.  We were advised to just wait it out, and it went away.

if excessive,(or lingers past a couple of weeks) it could be a food allergy, most likely being dairy in either the mothers diet or formula.

Our magic combo after some internet research... Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Wash, Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion, and, hold on to your hats... a thin layer of breastmilk a few times a day.  Worked after several days like a charm and never came back.

I'm a big proponent of Mustela products. We used the no-soap products to gently wash the affected area. Not only did the baby smell terrific, but his skin cleared up beautifully. Just keep the area clean and dry and usually the skin clears up quickly.

My son who is now over two still gets flare ups, but this is due to his allergies. If you have an older child, make sure that the "acne" is not an allergic reaction to something he's ingesting.

My son had this too.  In addition to gentle products we alternated giving the baby a bath in chamomile tea (per doctors orders) and had a cream called Kamilosan that was a derivative of chamomile to apply on his face.  We were also advised to only use cotton sheets and gentle detergents for his clothes.  Even though products are sold in grocery stores exclusively for babies, they are not always the best.  Go to a natural foods store and buy the baby soap and detergent for clothes there.

    Re: baby acne

Our daughter had a terrible case of this at 1 month.  Our pedia advised to wash with cetaphil and also apply hydrocortisone.  I was skeptical about the hydrocortisone, as it seemed like it would clog the pores more, so I did a little test and only applied it to half of her face.  The hydrocortisone worked wonders.  Her skin was cleared up within a couple of wks.

I know some people say to wait it out, but I really wanted treatment as it looked painful and unpleasant.
