I'm 30 years , will be 31 on Tuesday, I just had my miscarriage last week. When I first found out I was pregnant I was only 4 weeks, I then had some heavy bleeding, my doctor told me that it was a threaten miscarriage and that I needed to stay off my feet, light or no work. Mind you I only bleed that one day. My hcg levels were still 1500 and my exam was normal. When I was 8 weeks I went for my first ultrsound and the doctor could not find a heartbeat, but the sac was very visiable and look good, then my doctor told me he thought that I may not be as far long as he thought. Then last week  would have been 10.5 weeks my doctor did some blood work and found that my blood levels were -2, I started bleeding the next day.  I was very upset my doctor told me it looks like I may have  had miscarriage when I was 4 weeks and this would be my first period. I have a 14 son, and this would now be my 3 miscarriage. Two within the past 15 months.  I'm RH neg. And now don't know what to do. I'm very scared to try again. I'm wondering is there anyone that is RH neg and is this normal?

Hi Casey, though I am not an expert I had a total of 3 miscarriages  in between my 3 pregnancies.  I had the miscarriages within my 12 weeks of pregnancy.  Within 2 months of my miscarriages, I had my three successful pregnancies. This is a normal bodily process, I did not beat up on myself so much the third time around-

My sympathies on your miscarriages.  I have a feeling that those were just a bad string of luck, if you are otherwise healthy.  Plenty of women have a miscarriage before they even know they are pregnant, and think "this period is a little later than usual".  Like the other message writer said, don't beat yourself up about it. Most times, it's natures way of clearing out something that wasn't right enough to continue on. 

As for being RH neg., I don't think it has anything to do with the miscarriages, but it may. My first question to you is, is your first child RH pos?(He will be if his father was). My second question is, if he is, did they give you a RHO-gam shot while you were still pregnant or just after he was born?  The reason I'm asking is that when an RH neg woman has a RH pos baby, she needs the shot to protect any future babies from what is called RH incompatability.  This is not something they just discovered. It has been known about for more than 34 years and the shot has been available for as long.  I had my first son 32 years ago and I had it. This is not something that affects the mother or the first child. What happens is, as she's giving birth to the child, a little of the child's blood gets mixed into the mothers blood.  Then the mothers blood produces antbodies against RH pos factor that stay in her body.  It doesn't affect her at all.  But the seriousness comes into play when she has another RH pos. baby.  Those antibodies attack the unborn babies blood and can cause anything from having to have blood transfusions right after it's born, to fetal distress, to stillbirth, and possibly miscarriage.   This only occurs when RH neg mom has a RH pos baby. If her first kids are RH neg-no problem.  It's when RH pos baby comes along that sets up the situation, for any future RH pos babies.  And don't kid yourself that all doctors are competent.  My friend had her her first child 5 years after I had mine and she never got the RHO-gam shot. When she got pregnant again, during the last two months of her pregnancy she had to go for aminocentisis every week until she delivered to keep checking for trouble with the baby.  After he was born he had to have six blood transfusions to keep him alive. And it could've been prevented with one shot. Blood typing check was never done on the first born baby to see if mom needed the shot.  We're not talking about some high-tech expensive testing.  Kids in biology class in high school do it on their own blood in class it is so simple, for cryin' out loud.  (Yes it's a hot-button subject for me. In my opinion it is a clearcut case of malpractice.) 

Whew!  Enough of me yakking!  The bottom line is, get your doctor to check your blood for the antibodies, if you aren't sure if that's an issue, or not.  Speaking of doctors, might I suggest you check out a different one?  Your doctor says at 8 weeks he sees the sac (meaning there's a pregnancy in there) and then says when you are bleeding at 10.5 weeks that it's a period after miscarrying at 4 weeks along? Can't he do math?  For you to miscarry at 4 weeks and then be able see a sac at 8 weeks, then 2 1/2 weeks later you're not pregnant?   C'mon!  More likely it was a potential miscarriage that he didn't want to tell you about possibly going to happen, because he didn't want to upset you. Wouldn't you rather have him be upfront and honest about the possibility that (A.) Maybe you aren"t as far along he thought, or (B.) You are as far along as you thought, but there may a problem.  Otherwise why didn't he do the bloodwork when you were there at the ultrasound? Usually you only see a doctor once a month in early months.  My stepdaughter had the same thing happen to her (good sac, but no heartbeat) and they told her there was a possiblity of it being a miscarriage waiting to happen, and checked her once a week to monitor for a heartbeat.  Well, it turned out it was a miscarriage and she was grateful they warned her about the possibility, so it wasn't a shock when it happened. Certainly not happy about it, but not devastated by a total surprise.  As it turned out she got pregnant again before she had the first period after!  She had no problems with this one.  Well, hope I haven"t made you ears fall off. (Scratch that.  Make that eyes fall out).  I just hopefully gave you some things think about and to check on.  May your 14 year old son have a healthy brother or sister soon to pester him in the future!

Thanks for the info. And an answer to your questions, yes my son is postitive. I did receive my RHOgram shot during my pregnancy and after delivery, when I was pregnant with my son. As far as last 2 miscarriages same thing , as soon as I found out that I was pregnant I got my shot. As far as my doctor he do not do my bloodwork untill 10 weeks, once my results came back my HCG levels were -2, therefore as he put it the bleeding I had - indicated that this was my first period after a miscarriage.  Which was a complete surprise to me, yes I was bleeding ,but it was not heavy at all, no clots, nothing that I thought was major, so yes it was a major surprise to find out that I had lost the baby.  What really bothered me was that I only bleed for one day, not heavy, I was at work  I called my doctor and my boyfriend , I went straight home, my boyfriend and went to the doctors, he did an exam, which was painfull, my doctor indicated that I had an infection so he gave me meds for that. Two days later I had another ultrasound done and there was no longer a sac there. Talk about extremely upsetting. And I will never go back to that doctor again. As for now, I have gone back to work full time and taking it day by day. I was in shock for about a week , just trying to figure out when I passed it, or how I was just in complete shock. Earlier this month was very hard and emotional for me. I'm starting to get back into the routine of things. Congrads to you and your grandchild!! When we do decide to try again , it will not be going to that doctor again.

 Make sure you get a shot of Rhogam from your doctor for the RH negative blood type to prevent any problems with future pregnancies and to try and help prevent future miscarriage.
