"My house is me and I am it. My house is where I like to be and it looks like all my dreams" - Mr. Plumbeam in 'The Big Orange Splot' by Daniel Manus Pinkwater. I don't think it's widely known, but it's such a great book- quirky and sweet and all about not conforming.

Not so much kiddie-lit as toddler-lit, but "and a comb and a brush and bowl full of mush, and a quiet old lady whispering hush" is very popular around this household. For those who don't know, it's from that old chestnut, "Goodnight Moon".
