Being at the total mercy of the other parent and an incompetent government office (judge) who shows no wisdom, or even respect for the parent child bond and law (U.S Supreme Court guidleines on this) is probably one of the worst things you could ever experience in life.

Our for-profit divorce industry is a corrupt disaster that is optimized to extract as much money as possible from couples using children as bait. The lawyers rule of thumb is do not let the couple settle until we have billed 40% of the value of their estate in legal fees. The system is prepetuated by the lazy and ignorant judges, who are the bottom of the barrel and often political appointees who used to be the city's "lead paint inspector" (literally in my case), and by lawyers who create as unleveled a playing field as possible to maxmize their billable hours. In fact the industry is essentially a fraudulent one that does not create value but actually creates destruction. I costs $3,000 in California for the average mediation of a divorce and over $100,000 to do it with lawyers in the judicial system. Why? Because one has a focus of solving the problem and the other in creating more problems to drive legal fees higher. Even the better lawyers within it admit that more than 50% of the other divorce attorneys will intentionally cause problems to drive up legal fees.

This is ethically disgusting, of course, to any normal human being as it ruins the lives of children and parents. I was amazed that the media caught on to this root cause - parental alienation (encouraged and caused by judges and this system) and did not simply assasinate Baldwin - you obviously missed it though.
