Complain all you want, Prop 8 is going down. And it is a good thing too, it's high time we taught our children about fairness. I'll be voting no on Prop 8 and I hope to attend a few weddings in the near future.

Oh yeah, and if you don't like going to "lavish, lewd parades" I'm sure that you can avoid them.

What is unnatural about allowing someone their civil rights?

What does the bedroom have to do with any of this?

No one is forcing people to tell their kids what people do behind their bedroom doors. (I suspect most parents spend most of their bedtime hours catching up on their sleep)

Did I miss something? Did I miss the fact that Prop 8 comes with a mandatory reading list?

1. Marriage is not about sex for little kids (as Shannon notes above).

2. Prop 8 seeks to change the California Constitution to discriminate against a large class of people. It will not effect churches, etc. They remain free to discriminate as much as they want.

3. I don't like the "overly-flambouyant" heterosexual bar scene, so I avoid certain parts of my city (San Francisco, as it so happens) on Friday and Saturday nights. But I do not try to criminalize heterosexual marriage because of it.

All of our kids will be aware that there are all kinds of families because they will meet kids with all kinds of families at school--and they will take it all in stride, as just normal variation. Learning that there are different types of families--large, small, multiracial, adoptive, biological, near, far, blended, single parents, whatever--isn't a problem.

The fact that same-sex couples can legally marry in CA (or MA, or CT, or Canada...) doesn't mandate school reading lists. It doesn't mandate church policies (and some churches marry gay couples, some churches don't). Whether we're in a state that permits same-sex marriage or not, our kids are in school, we are in the community, and we all have the chance to learn a bit about how other people live. Which probably involves a lot more similarity than the hyperbolic rhetoric in the marriage debates would suggest.

Whatever, I fail to see how learning that some people have two moms or two dads has anything to do with what people do in bed, seeing as my kid is well aware that some people--most people--have a mom and a dad and still has no idea that people do anything in bed but sleep (including her two moms).

So now my kid has to read a book in school about families made up of 2 dads or 2 moms? I think people are mad not because of the exclusivity of marriage belonging to a man and a woman, but because it is being thrown in our faces beyond the simple law change. Why are we subjected to the overly-flamboyant even lewd participants in lavish parades through our towns to "celebrate" this? I don't want to know what other people do behind their bedroom doors, and I especially don't want to have to explain it to my young child. Keep your private lives private, people!!! I don't go around forcing you to learn about what my husband and I do in bed.

MM, once again this ridiculous argument.

The Supreme Court of CA found prop 22 to be unconstitutional. There were hardly "activist" judges, they merely found that you cannot discriminate against a whole class of people. That is democracy at it's finest.

Yes, that's right, discrimination. Try and defend it all you want but what you voted for was unconstitutional.

Why does nobody want to mention that it was legalized after the population had voted against this? I found a great random blog post about this when I was searching about this not long ago talking about ignoring what the majority has said and turning away from Democracy. I find it frustrating that everyone is so afraid to offend a group of people (well, that group, they have no issues saying whatever they want about several other groups, why this section of our population suddenly.. I will stop now) that all anyone can say is that those who want to stick up for their original votes to be upheld are prejudice and horrible.

Why can we all condemn polygamy, but we can't say anything about keeping marriage between a man and a woman?

Anyone need to borrow a lighter for the torches in the mob I can see forming? I'll just go hide now...
