7-Year-Old Piper Palin Sports High Heels on The Today Show

The clothes have all supposedly been sent back, the bells and whistles of campaign life have been silenced, and now the Palin clan is back to their normal life. You know, just standing around the kitchen, makin’ a halibut and salmon casserole and catchin’ up with the Today show’s Matt Lauer.

If you saw the interview that aired on Tuesday, you may have thought something looked a little odd when 7-Year-old Piper Palin sauntered into the room. Was it her elitist, not from “real” America “I Heart New York” t-shirt? Was it her comfort in front of the camera? No, I think it was that she was wearing a pair of black pointy-toed Stiletto heels. She walked around the room with a casual and practiced prance. Yes, this is the same Piper that was seen with an allegedly fake Louis Vuitton bag on her arm. The girl likes her fashion, she must have really loved the 150k shopping spree! But kudos to the family/handlers for not editing her shoe choice when the cameras are around. Little girls proudly love their heels, just like their mommies.

Piper Palin Carries a Louis Vuitton Bag - Is it Hers? Does it Matter?

On the heels of the revelation that the Republican National Committee footed the bill for a $150,000 high-end shopping spree for the Sarah Palin clan comes the blogosphere posting, like at Deceiver.com, of this photo of Palin’s 7-year-old daughter walkin’ around sporting a $790 Louis Vuitton Monogran Canvas Montrogueil PM bag. The question is, is it her bag? Her moms? A random staffer using Piper as their own personal Sherpa? Or maybe it’s a fake? But having such a high profile display of counterfeit contraband would be an even bigger no-no than spending that much on a kid’s bag (one blog is saying the bag is indeed a fake).

But perhaps Piper is just part of the conspicuous consumption LV loving kid trend. Last week I posted a piece on one of the chicks from The Real Housewives of Atlanta and the mom who bought her 11-year-old not one but two LV bags for her birthday. Everyone is entitled to spoil their children if that’s what they’d like to do. But when it comes to politics and trying to prove to the nation that you are just like the small town folks i.e “real Americans” of Joe Six Packs and Hockey Moms ilk, it would be a better message to just carry a stylish tote from Target.

What's Your Palin Name?

I have something of a confession to make: I run with Republicans. I am not one, very much so not one, but some of my best friends and very own father are red-state. Okay, maybe not such a big deal out in the big wide blogosphere, but among my lefty friends, to admit I know several Republicans and actually like them as people and even discuss politics with them is like saying I am a member of NAMBLA or something.

Of course, the discussions of Sarah Palin have been flying thick and fast, and breaking down among predictable lines (Me: She's too inexperienced! Them: But she's quippy and a mom and has been governor of a teensy state for nearly two whole years!). But here's one thing we can agree on: Her kids' names are damn weird (okay, I'll admit to liking Piper and Willow, but I still think they are weird names, just pretty ones).

To that end, let's all get some much needed laughs out of this: The Sarah Palin Name Generator. I am Crop Schooner Palin, while my son is Gripper Carom Palin and my daughter Ladel Torque Palin. Try. Laugh.

Palin's Children: The Best Part of the RNC

There's nothing like adorable children to take the edge off of soul-crushing political events. By far the best part of the Republican National Convention came last night when Piper Palin gave her baby brother Trig a spit bath during their mother's speech.

Unfortunately, to watch this clip, you do have to withstand Sarah Palin bragging about her city council days in the great state of Alaska (because serving on city council is sort of like running the country….), but at least you don’t have to hear the part of her speech when she jokes that hockey moms are pit bulls in lipstick. What a champion for women!—I mean ladies. It’s astounding that someone is running for national office who actually makes Dubya sound like a policy expert.

But I digress. The point of this clip is to momentarily forget about Sarah Palin and focus on the important things in life: making sure babies have perfectly slicked back hair.
