If you consult most parentng books, you'll learn that you should
dress your kids pretty much the way you are dressed; in other words, if
you're comfortable in winter with one layer on, so will your kids be.

to find out, that's not so true. At least, not in the world I've been
in. Children actually have less capacity for keeping warm, especially
babies, and also have less capacity for even knowing if they are cold.
