A Sacramento woman trying to win a Nintendo Wii for her three kids died after participating in a local radio station's "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contenst. Jennifer Strange, 28, died of water intoxication—she drank so much water she died.
Contestants were given 8-ounce bottles of water to drink every 15 minutes. (I would have been out after five sips.) As contestants sprinted for the toilet, remaining contestants, including Strange, were given even bigger bottles of water to drink. Radio station employees apparently warned water-guzzling participants not to put their health at risk. Contestants were not allowed to use the bathroom. (I'm crossing my legs just thinking about this.)
Radio station personnel were stunned to hear of the death and "are awaiting information to see how this tragic event occurred."
Okay, everyone: bathroom break!
