Whenever I go to the Hallmark Store, I see piles and piles of Beanie
Babies, each of them staring at me with those cute, collectible button
eyes. How sad, I think. No one buys these things anymore. 
Well, apparently somebody does. As
this Chicago Sun-Times story points out,
the floppy-limbed little animals generate enough money to allow Ty
Warner, head of the Beanie Baby business, to spend $40 million on a
penthouse condo. That's $40 million ... in the midst of an economic
collapse ... while America boasts one of the bleakest housing markets
in recent memory.
