• Update: School Reinstates Tag After "Reorientation"

  The Virginia elementary school that banned tag may again allow kids to be "it". A few weeks ago, principal Robyn Hooker outlawed the game, saying it had gotten out of hand, with students being tackled and piled on and dragged into games unwillingly. • Strollerderby Makes Headlines

  Here at the Derby, we read a lot of news stories and blogs and articles and blah blah blah did my eyeball just fall out and land on my keyboard? After the 400th piece on how you shouldn't let your kids play with lighter fluid and how children are getting fat and stupid, you start to get a little crazy. You sort of start to wish you were writing for the Onion or something, coming up with your own sassy news stories. I guess that explains the collective response when Matt sent out this actual news story with the unfortunate headline: "Program to Fight Obesity in Kids Expands." First we tee hee-ed a bunch. Then we started crafting faux headlines. "How Efforts to Stop Teenage Bulimia Have Been Tossed." • Strollerderby Playdate: Drooling over Droolicious

  I love these guys. I do. They may not know it, but I'm camped outside their front doors with a boombox above my head as we speak, just waiting to get the latest on what's hot and what's not in baby-related goodness. Droolicious rules my day. And the insanely talented bloggers behind it are my queens. (That sounded so much better in my head.) Chris from Notes from the Trenches is always ready with the razor-sharp wit. Mir from Woulda Coulda Shoulda ... holy Jebus, lady, do you even sleep?   I broke my nose at the playground today. I also gave myself a concussion.   And god looked down and saw upon the land a derby of strollers, and he said it was good. And just. And wise. And slightly alcoholic. • "Knocked Up" Gives Us No Love

  I've been eagerly following the buzz leading up to the premiere of "Knocked Up" -- the parenting movie of the summer (because that description puts people in the seats!). I've scoured reviews and focused intently on all the ads. But still ... nothing. Strollerderby has been dissed. • Strollerderby Finishline: One Free Birth at a Time

  Let's be honest here. You're not reading this. You're one day into the summer's first three-day weekend, and the last thing on your mind is parenting. That's why the kids are playing in a van down by the river, or whichever body of water you've taken them to this fine weekend, while you're back at the hotel-lodge-trailer-tent-wherever giving a whole new definition to the term Wi-Fi -- and it doesn't mean finding a connection to read this. • Strollerderby Playdate: Man Boobs Are the new Black

  Last week, Sarah wrote something or other about boobs -- and all hell broke lose. Turns out some people have a thing against seeing boobs in public -- especially when they're attached to children's mouths. I don't know who these people are, but I'm surprised they could find a keyboard and an Internet connection under that big rock. In support of a women's right to breastfeed wherever and however they please, a bunch of bloggy moms started showing off their assets. And then something amazing happened: So did dads.   Strollerderby Playdate is a new daily feature in which we read blogs so you don't have to. Wait a minute, we read blogs and then direct you to them, so yeah, I guess you have to. Suckers. Know a mom or dad blog you'd like us to feature? Let us know in the comments. There are a few blogs out there that I simply. have. to. check. every freaking day. No, I don't have a problem, if that's what you're thinking. Seriously, I can control it. You don't know me! Other blogs I have to check because my wife makes me or because they include porn. These don't have porn -- just great crafts and great writing. Putting it lightly, Molly Chicken knows a thing or two about crafty kids toys ... toys you'll never let them mess up. Ever. Flailing My Arms is one kick-ass writer. With a cute kid to boot. What's not to like? Chicken and Cheese is a must-read for my mid-western fix and an open heart. • Interview with James Poniewozik, Time Magazine Reporter: "Hipster Parents" WANT Him to Judge Them

  James Poniewozik, author of the much Babbled about "Too Cool for Preschool" piece in this week's Time Magazine, kindly agreed to answer some of our questions about his problem with hip parent bloggers and writers. STROLLER DERBY: You seem concerned that Gen X parents are so busy being cool and inserting themselves into the story of their kid's lives that they aren't putting their kids first as they should.   Is this based only on the books and the blogs or also on your observations of parents in action? JAMES P: I'm responding to the books and the blogs. In fact, this is the most important point I want to make: my article was about--to use the hated term--"hipster parent" *writing*, not about hipster *parenting*. I'm not trying to judge anyone's parenting.   I feel like the Babble bloggers, et al. , kind of want me to be judging their parenting, because that allows them to frame the debate as though they're being socially oppressed: Time magazine is trying to force us conform to their parenting norms! We're just too free-thinking for them! We're too threatening to The Man!
