Balance is restored to the universe. A giant baby is born in Russia,
and a very small baby is born in Germany. Well, actually she was born a
bit ago, but she's made it through six months in the incubator and the
good news is she gets to go home with her parents now.
She emerged 15 weeks premature, and weighed 10 and a half ounces.
That's tiny. Like, less than one in a thousand survival odds tiny. It's
about the size of my cell phone, and yes, I have the old-fashioned kind
you hold in your hand, not the Star Trek ear-perched kind you wear at
all times to look like an ass.
For more size perspective, at six months old now, she weighs 5 and a half pounds. That is considerably less than my daughter's birth weight.
But there is, um, one thing here I don't get.
