  • Hitting the Bottle: Cocktails Anyone?

I love Friday. I love a good cocktail. I love the spring. I love watching the kids play in the yard. I love sitting on my porch. Put all those things together and I've reached Mothering Nirvana.

Last week we served up The Choking Hazard with blue cheese and almond stuffed olives [Swoon]. This week we have a Logan Summers original:

    The Time Out

    • One shot cointreau
    • One shot vodka
    • One shot pineapple
    • Half shot chambord
    • Half shot lemon juice

In a cocktail shaker combine all ingredients and fill shaker with ice. Shake until your wife yells from the other room "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" well. Strain into a glass filled with ice.

You should probably make this a double, it's very tasty and you've got parenting under the influence to do.

  • Hitting the Bottle: It's Cocktail Time on Strollerderby!

martiniIt's Friday, people. That means it's time to get our swerve on. There's nothing that helps the afternoon "bitching hour" pass faster than a highball glass filled with a four fingers of vodka, a splash of OJ (for vitamin C), and an ice cube or two. Or maybe that's just me. And not just on Friday.

Welcome to Strollerderby's newest weekly series Hitting the Bottle. Every Friday we invite you to let the kids watch something wildly innapropriate on TV while you kick it on your front stoop with some Jesus Juice.

    This week we're serving up:

    The Choking Hazard

    • 3 ounces quality vodka
    • Dash dry vermouth (optional)
    • Splash olive juice (optional)
    • 3 blue cheese-almond stuffed olives skewered with the sharpest toothpick you can find (optional)

In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, vermouth, and olive brine. Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 1 minute 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the olive-almond skewer. Serve immediately.

For the olives: stuff large green olives with blue cheese and almonds (whole or slivers).
