Babble Parental Advisors Rebecca Odes and Ceridwen Morris are back with their latest parenting tip: finding a pediatrician.
Yes, it's totally weird to be interviewing pediatricians when you haven't even met your baby yet (it's sort like planning an arranged marriage), but it's never too early to start the hunt. Poll your friends with kids, ask your online parenting groups for advice, stop parents on the street if you have to.
Odes and Morris say that parents-to-be should consider a doctor that is geographically desirable (I second that: you do not want to be way across town when your baby is sick and needs a doctor), and one that agrees with your own thoughts on issues like breastfeeding, co-sleeping, and circumcision.
One thing I would add to their excellent list is to be aware that many doctors charge to be interviewed. Before you schedule 10 meetings, ask about the doctor's policy on this—some doctors charge $50 to $100 per consulation.
