• Teen Misery and Marijuana Use

  It turns out toking does NOT make depressed teenagers feel better. This is according to a recent White House report, which found that teens who report being depressed are twice as likely to smoke marijuana as those who do not report symptoms of depression, and those who smoke pot at least once a month over a yearlong period are three times more likely to report suicidal thoughts as those who abstain.   Leave it up to a country that has legalized the production, sale and use of marijuana to come out with a study showing that teens who toke up are just as likely to not only perform well in school, but to also develop an addiction to Cool Ranch Doritos and reruns of Matlock.  Alright so perhaps the potato chip/Andy Griffith habit was an assumed result, but the 2002 study published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, which surveyed more than 5,200 students ages 16 to 20, did claim that students who smoke marijuana do as well if not better in some areas as those who don't. • Duuude, Pot Smoking Kids Do Better Than Abstaining Peers

  So much for "stay in school and don't do drugs." As it turns out, in one study kids whose drug of choice was marijuana were "'more socially driven ... significantly more likely to practice sports and they have a better relationship with their peers' than abstainers." Ooooh, also: "'Even though they are more likely to skip class, they have the same level of good grades; and although they have a worse relationship with their parents, they are not more likely to be depressed' than abstainers." I guess the drug talk should go something like: "Darling, drugs are bad, but I'll totally understand if you need to smoke a little weed to do well in school, okay?" Caveats here...   Read More...
