I don't know about you, but I am tired of the welfare of my children
being directly tied to the abuse of children elsewhere. I stopped
buying toys made in China because the irony of giving my child a
plaything quite possibly made by a child with all but no childhood, let
alone toys, was simply too ironic to bear. Now comes this news of a
child labor scandal I have less direct control over, as it isn't up to
me to do the buying.
Today's Guardian reports
that many of the surgical instruments in use by British hospitals in
the National Health system are made by companies that subcontract to
small manufacturers who use child labor in sweatshop conditions.
