• A Bouncing Baby Girl ... on a Subway Platform

  There are lots of places where I would prefer not to deliver a child: In a bathroom stall; on a pitcher's mound during the seventh inning stretch at an Orioles game; Newark, New Jersey. (Ah, just kidding, New Jersey residents. That last joke was too easy.) Anyway, I would add to that list: A New York City subway station. But Francine Alfontent did just that on Monday, giving birth to a 6-pound, 7-pounce baby girl on the F train platform at the East Broadway stop. Read More... When we were freaked about babies having babies? Well, in the U.S. teen pregnancy rates are falling, so it's going to be that much harder to whip ourselves into a lather, and that is good. Now look, I like hearing the dark truth about the havoc pregnancy and birth can wreak on your body. For me, it feels like smashing the myth that everything is gonna be bliss, bliss, bliss, and you'll be wearing your pre-pregnancy jeans in a week postpartum, not to mention the fact that I liked being prepped for certain things. However, this should not be confused with the practice of walking up to pregnant women and telling them all about your 72-hour labor where you almost died. I liked it when girlfriends said, "Um, I wanna warn you about the first bowel movement after delivery" and hated it when someone said, "Oh, and then I had tearing like you wouldn't believe and as they readied me for my blood transfusion..."   A research group has determined there is no advantage to amniotomy before or during labor. In fact, it might put moms at a slightly higher risk for c-section, according to the report based on a systematic review of all relevant studies. Amniotomy, also called “rupturing the membranes” or “breaking the bag of waters” was likely under the “Don’ts” on your birth plan. Yet, if your water didn't break at home or sometime early in labor at the hospital, there’s a good chance your OB or midwife raked your amniotic sac with a small hook and broke your water anyway, “to get things going.” Read More... • Tori Spelling on Labor, C-Sections and Angelina

  "It felt like I was being Tasered!" That's what new mom Tori Spelling had to say about her 17-hour labor, which ended in the cesarean birth of Liam Aaron McDermott, now 3 weeks.  "As foolish as this sounds now, I wanted to feel how bad it would hurt. But I think I let the pain go on a little too long before I got the epidural." Tori tells US Magazine that when her labor stalled and she was told she'd need a c-section, she felt comforted by the fact that her OB-GYN was the same one who delivered another celebrity baby around this time last year, in Namibia.  "I asked Dr. Rothbart if he'd do a good job, and he said, 'Well, Angelina didn't complain.' So I was like, 'If Angelina let him do a C-section in Africa, I am OK. I felt comforted by that.'" I love that she didn't describe labor as "awesome!" or "pretty intense... but so worth it!" like a lot of celebrities do when they don't want to seem like wusses for keepin' it real.  But what I want to know is - how does Tori know what being Tasered feels like?  Who Tasered Tori??  'Cuz that had to be fun.
