One of Strollerderby's fave D-listers, Keri Russell, is talking about pregnancy and all those things that consume mothers-to-be in the final weeks before the baby arrives.
While Russell will forever be known to zillions of fans simply as the loveably bumbly Felicity, she will soon also be known as Mama to a child who's gender she's chosen to not yet know. Russell says she's happy to be surprised at the birth but thinks partner Shane Deary secretly hopes their babe's a girl. On the off-chance Hollywood works differently than the Midwest (just in case), I have loads of yellow duckie newborn stuff I'm willing to loan her that are the standard gift of irritated baby shower invitees and my mother's friends who just could. not. understand why in this day and age you'd choose not to know the gender. I'm just saying, it's here if you need it, Keri.
Russell's admissions of getting bloated and feeling out of breath, craving yogurt and freaking out over the responsibility of caring for a human being counter's our culture's expectation that being pregnant is all dreamy and idyllic. Oh no, she says, "that's just not real."
And the parents in the house said, Amen, Felicity! Amen.
