Counting cash with your baby in a sling? Writing a memo with your kid next to you in the Exersaucer? Nursing while on a gubernatorial conference call?
Why not? I mean, I only managed it in short stints when I tried it at home, but every kid (and every job) is different, and the stories over at the Parenting in the Workplace Institute are inspiring and happy—extended breastfeeding, happier babies, raised morale, improved retention and recruitment. The proverbial win-win, at least in a world where most families need more than one income.
The institute and its mission has come up on Strollerderby before (here and here): For anyone who thought then, "That sounds cool, I wish my job would do that," now's the time to ask. The group has a new book out and is actively recruiting job sites that want help setting up an infants-at-work program. Participating workplaces receive, for free, customized policies and procedures, training, and support as they set up their program to allow babies (usually up to crawling age) to come to work with their parents.
Meanwhile, on that subject, here's a quietly radical little blog post from my region: From the picture, mom appears to bring baby to work, in a sling. Yet the post is all about the business, not her family. There's a thought.
