  • Grown Up Time: Date Nights We Love

    Let's face it.  Parenting is hard, often unromantic work.  Parents are easily swept up into the laundry and bill piles and swept far away from the land of poetry and romance.  Enter the all-important date night.  Time set aside weekly or monthly for Mommy and Daddy to reconnect, have some laughs, share some wine, end enjoy the views.

    Folks around the blogosphere are digging on date night.  Take a look.

    1. Red W(h)ine and Boo shares scenes from a date night;

    2. Never a Dull Moment talks about turning a 50's medley musical evening out into something to laugh about;

    3. She Knows Best shares a great recipe for beef tacos that he can fix for her.

    4. Mary Mary Quite Contrary tried laser tag with her husband.  And loved it.

    So there you have it.  Hire a sitter and try something new.  Together.  These are the kinds of dates that matter more than all those first giggly ones combined.

  • Grown-Up Time: Great Dates for a Buck

    Welcome to the second-installment of Stroller Derby's Grown-Up Time, a weekly feature where we'll dish about ways for mamas and papas to have more fun, take better care of themselves, and keep their grooves groovin'.

    This week: Great Dates for a Buck
    First caveat.  This only works if you have a sense of humor and well-stocked liquor cabinet.  Oh, and free babysitting.  And maybe an eensy bit more than one dollar.

    1. Dance Dance Baby - It helps if you've had one of these and a couple of these.  Dress up and go out.  Mommy and Daddy need to shake it.  Out. In style.

    2. Strip Poker - Drop the kids at grandma's and make your way back home.  Set up the card table and play some seven card stud.  You'll get giggly seeing all the jiggly.

    3. Fight Just so You Can Make Up - This only works if the simmering resentments and disappointments haven't robbed you of your humor (yet).  The idea is of course to "fight" about something like "How come you're so pretty and thoughtful?" or "What makes you such a FABULOUS husband?"  Better yet... arm wrastle.

    4. Go for a Drive - Listen to music and sing out loud.  If it's sunny, put the windows (or better yet) the top down.
